PML-Q nominates Pervaiz for CM slot

LAHORE, Oct 26: Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, who was nominated by 167 members of the provincial parliamentary party of the pml-q as their leader and candidate for chief minister on Saturday, has pledged that he will promote tolerance and not victimise his political opponents.

In a speech at the parliamentary party meeting and later talking to reporters, he said as the chief executive of the country’s biggest province he would serve the people with dedication and try to restore the confidence of the state institutions.

Party president Mian Azhar, central leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and provincial information secretary Kamil Ali Agha were also present.

The strength of the parliamentary party will go up to 184 when legislators-elect of the National Alliance and the PML(Jinnah) and the PML(Chattha) will also participate. The party will also secure women and minority seats according to the number of general seats won by it.

Election was held on 296 out of total 297 general seats of the Punjab Assembly.

This was the first meeting of the parliamentary party and all participants introduced themselves to Pervaiz Elahi who would retain the post of party’s provincial president.

Pervaiz asked the MPAs-elect to provide him their CVs at the earliest so that he could choose members of his cabinet.

Decision on the speaker and the deputy speaker would be taken by the party.
