Canwara poised to make amends

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, Oct 26: Two-year-old bay colt Canwara, who was beaten in his last outing, should not let punters down again, when the 8th Lahore Winter Meeting gets underway at the Lahore Racecourse Sunday.

He is appearing in the fourth race, a term race for two-year- old halfbred colts and fillies to be contested over the sprinting distance of 1000 metres.

A progeny of Prince Leap out-of-Miss Hope, Canwara was beaten in a photo-finish on Oct 13 last. He should make amends and win. Two other colts Tripple ‘M’ and Super Star should fight for places in a field of nine runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawals.

Five-year-old bay mare Turn On, looks a good proposition in the opening race. She had already won a good race last Sunday and will be going all out to make it two in-a-row. Turn On should be followed home by chestnut colt Knock Out, bay colt Fly To The Star and stablemate Silver Charm. The race is to be run over 1000 metres.

Four acceptors seems to be on chance in the second race also to be contested over 1000 metres. They are: Great King, Dancing Margina, Zargar and Popeye Well. They should fight it out.

The four-year-old bay colt Raj Ruks, who has won two back to back races will be going all out to complete a hat-trick of victories in the third race. He will be facing stiff challenge from sprinters like My Own Business, Kargil Tiger and Royal Prosper, who may make their presence felt strongly.

In the fifth race many may fancy three-year-old bay colt Incognito, who won a facile race over 1000 metres on Oct 13 last. He will be going over the 1400 metres distance for the first time among confirmed stayers like bay filly Red Storm, chestnut Good Justice and Storm Bird. The last named has already won three races in-a- row. They should give a very tough time to Incognito.

Three-year-old chestnut colt Red Ransom will be on the trot to make it two wins in-a-row for owner Sohrab Khan. Lucky Shot, Lake District and Early Bird may put up some challenge to Red Ransom.
