PTCL lift trophy in ill-tempered final

FAISALABAD, Oct 26: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) lifted the All Pakistan Zafar Memood Gold Cup hockey overcoming Pakistan Army 2-1 in an ill-tempered final played Friday night.

The final witnessed some ugly incidents in which two PTCL players sustained injuries hit by Army players and the team manager Mukarram Khan, who were accused of also manhandling the official after he awarded a penalty stroke.

As the result of penalty stroke Army team first walked out but returned later to finish the match.

Due to Army players and manager’s unsportsman like attitude the organiers had demanded the Pakistan Hockey Federation and the Pakistan Army officials to take stern action against the team manager, Mukarram Khan, and the players involved.

PTCL went ahead thrlough Aqeel Ahmad who converted the penalty stroke in the 58th minute and later scored the winner in the 65 minute. Dilawar Hussain scored the consolation goal for Army.
