HYDERABAD: DPOs asked to return weapons to owners

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, Oct 26: The regional police officer (RPO), Hyderabad, has directed DPOs of the seven districts of the region to return the weapons deposited at different police stations under the Arms Ordinance to their owners.

Presiding over a meeting of senior police officers of the region here the other day, RPO Abdul Rauf Yousufzai urged the DPOs to launch a campaign for the recovery of illicit arms.

Mr Yousufzai announced that the children of the martyred policemen would be given employment in the department on priority basis.

He pointed out the provincial police officer had already announced heirs of the martyred police personnel would continue to get full salary for the remaining employment period.

The RPO further directed that anti-burglary, anti-dacoit and Elite units should be raised in each district to launch an effective drive against criminals.

Referring to the bomb blasts in Karachi, he said fool-proof security arrangements should be made at sensitive places.

Zeal Pak Cement: District Nazim Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman has constituted a three-member committee to resolve the problem of workers of the Zeal Pak Cement Factory who have not been paid their golden handshake money.

The committee was formed at a meeting of representatives of labour, the management of the factory and the district government at the office of the district Nazim here on Thursday.

The district Nazim said the committee would assess the assets available with the factory management, including GP funds, vacant plots, residential quarters and land, so as to get these disposed of and clear Rs70 million liabilities payable to 241 sacked workers of the factory.

Mr Rafiquzzaman said the district government would support the workers and the management in taking legal action against those who had issued cheques to the workers but the same were dishonoured.
