KARACHI, Oct 26: The supreme council of All Pakistan Transporters (SCAPT) on Saturday announced to defer the wheel-jam strike scheduled on October 28, and urged the government to reduce the rates of petroleum products.
Addressing a joint press conference at the Karachi Press Club, chairman SCAPT Mir Yousuf Shehwani and chairman National Transport Ittihad Karachi, Saleem Khan Bangash, said that if the demands of transporters were not accepted, they would decide about the future line of action on October 29.
He said that with the efforts of the city Nazim a high-level meeting had been scheduled with the governor Sindh on October 28.
He said that on the suggestion of the city Nazim, the transporter organisations had decided to defer the October 28 strike.
He said the main demands of the transporters were reduction in diesel prices, abolition of the Oil Companies Advisory Committee, end of heavy fines and extortion by customs and excise and reduction in the prices of spare parts.—APP
