PTA, Paktel sign accord

ISLAMABAD, Oct 25: Paktel and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Friday signed an agreement under which the Paktel will invest $150 million to switch over from AMPS system to EGSM system.

An official announcement said that the Paktel, under the agreement, will invest $150 million in three years and provide GSM services to the consumer. On the completion of this project, the tariff rate shall considerably be reduced and there will be a healthy competition between the GSM operators including Ufone, Paktel and Mobilink.

The replaced equipment will be installed in the rural areas to uplift the downtrodden people to the level of urban commodity and resultantly consumers shall be benefited.
