LHC stays polls on reserved seats

LAHORE, Oct 24: The Lahore High Court in a stay order on Thursday has restrained the Election Commission of Pakistan from conducting elections on the reserved seats for women and minorities in the national and provincial assemblies.

The High Court issued the order on a petition filed by the Pakistan Muslim League (Q).

S.M. Zafar, while giving arguments on behalf of the PML(Q), stated that the commission had withheld results of some constituencies of the assemblies. Therefore, until the announcement of official results of all the constituencies, elections on the reserved seats could not be held.

The court, accepting the petition for hearing, issued notice to the Election Commission to present their viewpoint on Friday.—APP
