Sprint double by Imran

KARACHI, Oct 23: Muhammad Imran of Government Commerce College completed a fine sprint double winning 100m and 200m on the opening day of Karachi University Inter-collegiate Athletic (Boys) championship-2002.

First Imran clocked 11;54 second, followed by his college mate Nabeel Jaweed (12;43) with Arsalan of Faculties finishing third (13;07) to emerge as the fastest collegiate.

Later in 200m Imran was timed 25:07:02 and was home followed by Nabeel Jaweed (26;03;00 second), and Arif of Faculties third in a time of 26;09;00 second.

Muhammad Abbass, again of Government Commerce College passed the post first in 800m. He clocked 2;31;90 second. Tasawar of Faculties stood second 2;35;25 and Shafeeq Ahmed also of Government Commerce College got the bronze with 2;36;53 second.

In Long Jump, Nawaz of Government Islamia Science College ended up in first place (16’-1”). Muhammad Imran (15’-3”) and Chaudhry Asif of Faculties (14’-10”) occupied second and third spots.

Suleman of Faculties came in first first in Shot Put with a throw of 9.70m followed by Jalal also of Faculties 9.00m and Badar of Government Jinnah College in third place with 6.20m.

Faisal Idrees (Faculties) hurled the javelin 44.85m, to grab first spot followed by M. Muhstaque of Faculties (40.40m) while Muhammad Faisal of Government Commerce College finished third (34.27m).

In 400m hurdles, Arsalan Faiz of Faculties stood first with 1;08;75 second, followed by Muhammad Abbass of Government Commerce College 1:08:85, Muhammad Faisal of same college came in clocking 1:11:58.

Faculties is leading with 57 points while Government Commerce College with 53 points is in second spot.

Tomorrow’s events:

Finals:110m hurdles, Discus, High Jump, 5000m, Triple jump. 1500, 4x10m relay.

Faculties, Government Jinnah College, Government Islamia Science College, Government S.M. Arts and Commerce College, Government Commerce College-1 and Government Superior Science College are taking part in the meet.
