ISLAMABAD, Oct 23: The cabinet in its meeting on Wednesday approved the first ever national policy for persons with various disabilities, said an official statement.

Highlighting the aims and objectives of the policy, the secretary of the Ministry of Women Development, Social Welfare and Special Education, Parveen Qadir Agha, said the federal government wanted to streamline people who had some form of disability.

She said the involvement of special people in the planning and implementation of policies, programmes and projects designed for them was one of the landmarks of the new policy.

The policy seeks adequate formulation and strict enforcement of legislation, expansion of service infrastructure, use of modern technology and skills, besides removal of financial and technical constraints in the way of programme implementation for special people.
