Shikarpur seat goes to PPP

By Our Correspondent

SUKKUR, Oct 22: The returning officer, Shikarpur, Anand Ram, declared on Tuesday that Agha Tariq Khan, People’s Party Parliamentarians candidate from PS-11 (Shikarpur), remained winner after recounting of votes on the request of his rival, Imtiaz Shaikh of the Sindh Democratic Alliance.

Talking to Dawn on telephone on Tuesday, he said after the recounting of votes, Agha Tariq polled 17,575 votes against Imtiaz Shaikh’s 15,900 votes, a difference of 1,675.

The notification issued by the Election Commission on Monday, which appeared in a section of the press on Tuesday, had declared Shaikh as successful candidate from the constituency.

Sources close to Shaikh claimed that there was manipulation of votes at six polling stations, and after recounting, the number of the votes secured by him exceeded those of Khan.

However, the returning officer denied it, and said Agha Tariq remained successful after the recounting of votes.
