Anti-polio campaign launched

ISLAMABAD, Oct 22: About 70,000 teams consisting of 140,000 health workers will administer polio drops and vitamin A supplements to 30 million children through out the country.

This was stated by the federal minister for health, Dr Abdul Malik Kasi, while inaugurating a two-day “National Immunization” programme here on Tuesday.

The programme will continue till Thursday. The teams also include about 20,000 Lady Health Workers (LHW).

“The federal and provincial health ministries haven given top priority to the national immunization programme and it will achieve its target,” the health minister said.

The first round of immunization was held from September 5-7, and to date. About 54 polio cases had been detected during the summer campaign whereas in India, over 600 cases emerged.
