GILGIT, Oct 22: The Northern Areas’ education department would allocate Rs10.2 million for furniture purchasing for around 101 schools in Ghizer district, sources told Dawn on Tuesday.

The sources said due to lack of funds these schools had been working without sufficient furniture for the past 10 years, which had affected teaching.

The sources said around 8,700 students had been enrolled in these schools and it was necessary to equip these schools with furniture, labs and libraries.

Abdullah Islahi, the deputy director of education, Ghizer, said so far 233 teachers had been trained, in collaboration with the NGOs, who would impart quality education to the students.

He said the irregular teachers had been issued warnings and those found absent would be dismissed.
