PCB abolishes slab system
LAHORE, Oct 21: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has abolished the slab system for paying cricketers, which existed earlier and have now adopted a new pay
system based on performance.
PCB chairman, Lt Gen Tauqir Zia, disclosed Monday that the new system was in operation in various countries including World champion, Australia.
Explaining the system, Tauqir said that an equal fixed amount would be paid to all the members of the team, setting aside their seniority. The balance amount to be earned by the players would be based upon their performance.
He went on to say that the PCB had received details from Australia about the new plan which would be implemented soon, after making some necessary changes to adapt to the local environment.
He was optimistic that the new system would force the players to give maximum performance.
Meanwhile, in an effort to test the abilities of potential and upcoming cricketers, the Pakistan Cricket Board will organise Ramazan-ul-Mubarak tournament during the month of Ramazan, which starts from early November.
The tournament would provide the cricketers an opportunity to expose their talent before the board.
He said that cricketers like former Test player Ijaz Ahmed would also be allowed to prove their fitness through this tournament.
He said that the chairman of the PCB domestic tournament committee chairman Iqbal Qasim was working on this tournament. The details would be announced after getting a complete plan from Qasim, he said.
