Crime graph up in Sialkot

Published October 22, 2002

SIALKOT, Oct 21: The entire Sialkot district is in the grip of heinous crime wave now-a-days.

The worst-hit are the Sialkot city, Daska, Satrah, Loriky, Motra, Bhopalwala, Sambrial, Begowala, Badiana, Chawinda, Pasrur and their adjoining rural areas.

The Sialkot police have so far not taken effective measures to arrest the proclaimed offenders who are the main cause of rising incidents of dacoity, robbery, theft and murder.

Inadequate police patrolling on highways and city areas have also added to the incidents of car and motorcycle snatching.

The incident of getting freed three dangerous dacoits by four armed men from police custody in Daska courts on Oct 14 is an eye opener for high-ups of the Punjab police. As of now, not a single fugitive has been rearrested.

Most of the SHOs in the Sialkot district’s 26 police stations have been posted in violation of the merit policy.

Sources in police department said the out of district reshuffling of these prolonged deputed SHOs and appointment of others on merit could help control the present crime wave.

FUNDS COLLECTED: Industrialists and exporters have collected Rs5 million for the construction of roads and lanes in the Sialkot Small Industrial Estate.

Traders, factory owners and labourers are facing problems due to the deteriorated condition of roads in the industrial area. To improve the drainage system and the construction of roads, the Sialkot tehsil Nazim has also provided Rs5 million funds.
