Dust storm disrupts traffic in Sindh

Published October 22, 2002

SUKKUR, Oct 21: Heavy dust storm on Monday disturbed road, rail and air traffic in Sukkur, Khairpur, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Ghotki and other parts of the province.

However, the local people heaved a sigh of relief because of the respite from simmering heat. Recently, the temperature had risen over 40 degrees Centigrade.

The dust storm, which began at about 6:00am, lasted till late evening.

Railway officials said that several trains were delayed by one to three hours as they could not maintain their speeds due to subdued visibility.

Poor visibility also caused several accidents on the National Highway.

Two of the PIA flights — PK-390 and PK-391 — were also cancelled.

The people of Sukkur and other parts of Sindh were also deprived of all national dailies because of the flight cancellations.

COUPLE KILLED: A couple, Iqbal Shaikh and his wife Nasim, was shot dead in mysterious circumstance in Old Sukkur on Monday.

Wali Dino Shaikh, father of deceased Iqbal, informed the police that his son shot his wife dead and then turned the gun to himself.

The postmortem report revealed that Nasim was shot from a close range and Iqbal from a distance range, which suggested that he had not committed suicide.

The police have registered a case on the complaint of Wali Dino, handed over the bodies to the families of the deceased couple and began investigation.

Iqbal had married Naseem some ten months back and, according to his father, the couple had developed some differences just after the marriage.
