KARACHI: Telecom-IT portal launched

KARACHI, Oct 21: The Telecom and IT Division has launched Pakistan’s first ever information and service web portal. The portal — pakistan.gov — will facilitate provision of services to customers, strengthen state-people relationship through greater participation, increase efficiency of government departments and enhance transparency besides government transactions.

This was stated by the Federal Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Attaur Rehman, while briefing ministers, secretaries and officials about the web portal here on Monday.

He said that the portal will also help improve the government’s image in the perspective of local and foreign investments, increase collaboration among government organizations and create an IT-aware culture for government employees.

The briefing was attended by ministers for interior, commerce, law & parliamentary affairs, culture & tourism, labour & manpower as well as secretaries/representatives of all the divisions.

Prof. Atta urged the ministers to participate in handling the portal by evolving a mechanism of updating the web sites on daily basis.—PPI
