KARACHI, Oct 21: Work on laying a sewerage line from Nursery Market to Manzoor Colony drain has been initiated at a cost of Rs5.6 million which will be completed in two months.
Residents of Nursery Market and PECHS Society were faced with problems due to non-existing of a sewerage system and so this scheme was included in the Khushhal Pakistan Programme.
Chief Secretary K.B. Rind along with DCO Karachi Shafiqur Rehman Paracha during a visit to various under-construction KPP projects also inspected this scheme.
He directed the concerned officials to ensure early completion of the work.
Mr Rind also visited the road from Shaheed-i-Millat to Stadium Road in Gulshan Town whose construction has been completed. He was informed that Rs5.4 million had been spent on the road.
Later, he inspected work on Baloch Colony bridge and improvement of Razi Road.
K-III project: Additional chief secretary, planning and development, Shahzado Shaikh, on Monday directed the officials of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board to expedite the work on K-III project for supply of 100-million-gallon daily water to the city, so that it could be completed in the stipulated time.
Presiding over a meeting of a steering committee on K-III project, he directed the KWSB managing-director to prepare for a presentation to the governor on the project, which would also be attended by Nazim Karachi.
Mr Shaikh reviewed progress, technical and other matters of the project and said that proposals and hardships should also be presented during the briefing.
The K-III project at a cost of Rs6,103 million is being financed by the federal government. President Pervez Musharraf laid the foundation stone of the project early this year. It is to be completed in 36 months.
The federal government had released Rs500 million for execution of the project during 2001-2002 and earmarked Rs997 million for the current fiscal year.
In a recent presentation to Gen Musharraf, it was informed that three contracts out of 18 had been awarded while three bids were under evaluation. The remaining contracts in designing and preparation stage were said to be completed by end of December.—app/PPI
