Three killed in Indian shelling

By Our Staff Correspondent

MUZAFFARABAD, Oct 19: Three people were killed and four others wounded in two different areas of Azad Kashmir in Indian shelling during the past 24 hours, official sources said here on Saturday.

They said a man was killed in Kel sector in the upper belt of Neelum valley, in northeast of Muzaffarabad, in the wee hours of Friday. The shelling in Neelum valley continued till late Friday night, but no more casualties were reported from there, sources said.

In Leepa valley, in southeast of the AJK capital, shelling started around the same time and continued all day, sources said. Two people were killed and four others wounded in Leepa valley late night, they said, adding that at least four houses were also burnt.

According to sources, India’s announcement to withdraw its troops from the international border had not made any difference to the tension prevailing along the LoC as there was no let up in shelling by Indian troops of Azad Kashmir villages.

Shelling resumed in Leepa valley on Saturday, but officials said they had no reports of casualties.
