HYDERABAD, Oct 19: The Sindh government has promoted 237 assistant professors from BPS-18 to BPS-19, it was notified by the services and general administration co-ordination on Friday.

Of the total, 139 are male and 98 of them are female assistant professors.

According to the notification, all of them have been promoted and posted in their respective colleges in which they were working prior to promotions.

In a related development, the central general secretary of Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association, Prof Liaquat Aziz, thanked the chief secretary, K. B. Rind, on behalf of the association.

He expressed the hope that the chief secretary will also implement the decisions taken at the meeting between the representatives of the association and the concerned officials on Aug 17.

SU COMMITTEE: The Sindh University has appointed a three- member committee to identify instruments in the science departments’ laboratories which needed repairs.

The committee comprises Dr M. Y. Khawar, Dr A. W. Ansari. It will be headed by the dean, faculty of natural sciences, Dr Noor Mustafa Shaikh.

This was decided at a high-level meeting, which was presided over by the vice chancellor, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, here on Friday.

The meeting decided to make optimum use of all available instruments in various science faculty departments in the light of a report submitted by Dr A. W. Ansari.

The meeting proposed the establishment of a central scientific workshop for proper repair of instruments.

On the occasion, the vice chancellor also sanctioned Rs50,000 for each science department /institute for the repairs. The amount will be spent in consultation with the committee.

Dr Noor Mustafa Shaikh also presented a report and Prof Asif Ali Kazi, Dr Saeed Ahmed Soomro, Dr M. Y. Bhangwar, Dr A. W. Ansari, Prof Bashir Ahmed Channar also spoke on the occasion.

ADMISSIONS: The Sindh University has announced the schedule for new admissions for the academic session of 2003 in all disciplines for bachelors (hons) as well as masters degree programmes on regular, as well as self-finance scheme basis.

According to a notification, the admission forms will be available from Oct 22 till Nov 8 at the Habib Bank Limited, old campus, Hyderabad and Jamshoro branches for admissions in BCS, BS (IT), B.Pharmacy and all other disciplines of faculty of natural science, BA, B.Com, BBA, BPA and all other bachelors disciplines under the faculties of arts, social sciences, commerce and business administration and Islamic studies, including BA Fine Arts and in masters degree programme M.A., M.Sc. in various disciplines, M.Com, MPA, MBA (previous), including women development studies, biochemistry, biotechnology and environmental studies.

All candidates securing at least 45 per cent marks in the HSC Part-II, pre-engineering, medical, commerce, humanities (Arts) or having passed equivalent examination till 2002 from the BISE, Hyderabad or any other recognised institution, are eligible to apply for the bachelors programme.
