SWABI, Oct 18: Among the eight legislators elected from the district, only two have the previous experience of parliament and the rest are elected for the first time.

Two National Assembly seats and six provincial assembly seats were allocated to the district.

Both the former parliamentarians who had been elected again as legislators from the district are Awami National Party’s dissidents.

The district amir of JI, advocate Mohammed Usman, got the NA- 12 Swabi-I seat for the first time on the MMA ticket.

JUI(F) leader Maulana Khalil Ahmad was also elected for the first time from the NA-13 Swabi-II constituency on the MMA ticket.

MPA-elect Dr Mohammed Salim, from the PF-31 Swabi-I, was an ANP dissident and chairman of the Swabi Qaumi Mahaz (SQM).

He was elected on the ANP ticket in 1993 from the same constituency but in 1997 developed differences with the party leaders and contested elections as an independent candidate but lost the polls.

From the PF-32 Swabi-II constituency, Aamir Rehman was elected for the first time. His father, former MNA Rehmanullah, was out from the politics owing to the graduation condition.

Mukhtiar Ali, the MPA-elect on the ANP ticket from PF-33 Swabi-III was also a new face in the field.

The MPA-elect from PF-34 Swabi-IV on the MMA ticket, Abdul Majid Khan, was an ANP dissident and had joined the JUI(F) last year. Earlier, he was elected twice on the ANP tickets from the same constituency.

The MPA-elect on the MMA ticket from PF-35 Swabi-V, Maulana Fazal Ali, and the MPA-elect on the ANP ticket from PF-36 Swabi- VI, Sarfaraz Khan, were also elected for the first time.
