KARACHI, Oct 18: The additional district and session judge, East, Syed Sagher Zaidi, acquitted on Friday a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in a case pertaining to the possession of an unlicensed weapon.
The worker, Fahim Ahmed, was booked and arrested in 1999 by the Korangi police for carrying an unlicensed AK-47 assault rifle (Kalashnikov).
The judge exonerated the Muttahida man from the charge as the prosecution could not prove its case against him.
Meanwhile, the same court granted bail to a man, arrested for stealing a motorcycle.
Mohammed Arshad, booked by the Al-Fallah police on the complaint of Nazeer Ahmed, was given bail in the sum of Rs100,000.
Besides, the additional district and sessions judge, West, Ms Naseem Mansoor, acquitted two men in a robbery case.
Naushad Ali alias Guddu and Yaqoob were prosecuted for committing robbery in the house of complainant Mansoor in 1995 within the limits of the Orangi Town police.
The judge exonerated them from the charges for want of incriminating evidence.
Besides, the judicial magistrate, West, S. M. Taqi, acquitted three men in a dacoity case.
Iftikhar Ahmed, Imtiaz ali and Shaikh Riaz, who are being tried for looting the house of Malik Rasheed on Sept 26, 2000 in Shershah, were acquitted as the prosecution could not bring on record sufficient evidence against them.
