Faculties in final after death playoff

KARACHI, Oct 17: Faculties beat Government Jinnah College in a sudden death play-off in the final of the Karachi University Inter-Collegiate Hockey (Boys) final played at the Karachi University Campus hockey ground on Thursday.

In a very exciting encounter which thrilled the spectators, Faculties drew first blood and were leading 1-0 at the interval.

With their forwards attacking in waves, Government Jinnah College finally tore through the Faculties defence and equalised in the second half.

After the stipulated time, penalty strokes were carried out and the teams were still on even keel at 4-4. In the sudden death play-off, Usmanul Haque receiving a pass from Jehanzeb Raees, cut through a host of defenders and beat the rival custodian with a rasping shot to help Faculties win the final. Shahzad and Saleem Raza, were a pillar of strength for the losers.

In the volleyball (boys) tournament, Faculties reached the final by receiving a walk-over against DHA College.

The Faculties spikers will now take on Government of College of Physical Education in the final to be played on Saturday at 10.00 a.m.

Earlier Government College of Physical Education beat Government Islamia Science College 3-0 (25/12, 25/10, 25/15) in the quarter- final round and later routed Government Jinnah College 3-0 (25/5, 25/2, 25/17) in the semi-final.

The Shootingball tournament will begin on Saturday at 11.00 a.m. at the Campus University of Karachi.
