KARACHI, Oct 17: Burly all-rounder Arif Mahmood blasted his way to a whirlwind century as KESC gained a vital first innings lead over KPT on the second day of the Kardar Trophy match at UBL Sports Complex here Thursday.
Arif, the KESC skipper, lashed four sixes and eight fours in an unbeaten 119 off only 121 deliveries to rally his side to 322 for eight in their allotted quota of 80 overs.
Tariq Haroon also impressed in making 52 off 89 balls with the aid of six hits to the fence.
Medium-pacer Mohammad Hasnain captured four for 97.
KPT, who made 291 for nine in their first innings, were 29 for no loss in their second knock.
A fine innings of 109 by PAF’s Aamir Sajjad failed to prevent Navy taking first innings honours in the match at PCB Regional Academy Ground.
PAF were all out for 236 in reply to the sailors’ 314.
Navy extended their lead to 124 by reaching 46 for two in their second innings.
Pakistan Education Board (PEB) staged some sort of recovery to deny Sui Gas a two-day victory at National Stadium.
PEB, who were bundled out for 93 Wednesday, were 165 for seven in their second innings thanks to an undefeated 78 by Naveed Khan.
Earlier, Asim Munir spanked an unconquered 105 at almost run-a-ball to help Sui Gas amass 337 for three before skipper Saleem Mughal surprised everyone by closing the innings with 13 overs still remaining in the quota.
Our Sports Reporter adds from Rawalpindi: Attock Refinery Limited (ARL) were forced to follow on after crashing 167 in their first innings against PTCL at ARL Ground.
Batting a second time, the home team lost seven wickets in reaching 125 by stumps. They now require further 32 to make PTCL bat again.
Off-spinner Jawwad Hameed followed his first innings’ three for 54 by snapping up four for 30 in 23 overs.
Our Sports Correspondent adds from Lahore: Pacer Tahir Mughal grabbed eight wickets to put Saga in a commanding position against PTV at Saga Ground in Sialkot.
PTV collapsed to 131 in reply to Saga’s first innings score of 334. Tahir ran through the middle-order batting to finish with excellent figures of six for 40.
Forced to bat again, PTV were 101 for three at close of play with two of the wickets being taken by Tahir.
