China calls for end to standoff along LoC
BEIJING, Oct 17: China on Thursday called for an early end to military standoff along the Line of Control and urged India and Pakistan to resume dialogue at the earliest for resolution of their disputes, including the Kashmir issue.
“The withdrawal of forces to the peace-time location is not only in the interest of the two countries, but could also be an important step towards peace and stability in South Asia,” said a spokeswoman of the Chinese foreign ministry, Zhang Qiyue, talking to the newsmen at the weekly briefing.
She termed Indian government’s decision regarding the withdrawal of its forces from the international border “a welcome decision.”
However, she said: “The two countries should resume dialogue as early as possible to resolve their disputes, including the issue of Kashmir for lasting peace in the region.”
Zhang Qiyue said China, being a neighbour and friend of India and Pakistan, hoped that they would realise the need of settling their differences through peaceful means.—APP
