KARACHI: MMA accepts challenge of re-polling in Karachi
KARACHI, Oct 17: Criticizing the Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Altaf Hussain for demanding fresh elections in the country under the supervision of the UN, the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal on Thursday asserted it was ready to contest polls again supervised by Pakistan Army in Karachi and Hyderabad.
“We want to make it clear to Altaf Hussain that elections under UN supervision are held only in disputed territories. Karachi is integral part of Pakistan”, MMA leader Merjaul Huda Siddiqui told a news conference at Idara Noor-i-Haq Karachi. MMA leaders Allama Hassan Turabi, Mohammad Aslam Mujahid and Mufti Usman Yar Khan were also present.
He alleged that more than 20 National and Sindh assembly seats were given to Muttahida through polls rigging in Karachi and Hyderabad despite an overwhelming voting in favour of MMA candidates on Oct 10.
“NA constituencies 240, 245, 249, 251, 255, 256 and PS constituencies 103, 105, 110, 111, 112, 113, 115, 117, 118, 119, 120, 122 and 129 were given to them (MQM) through rigging by polling staff,” he alleged.
“We have approached the Election Commission for scrutiny of results and repolling in some constituencies in Karachi.”
He urged the Election Commission to take action against those displaying ballot papers before media, as according to him, their possession was only allowed to officials of the commission.
Allama Hassan Turabi said a parcel bomb was sent to him through courier on Thursday morning but in view of incomplete address, it was returned where it was found to be a parcel bomb, similar to the one sent to the police officials.
MMA leaders vowed that conspiracies aimed at creating rift among component parties of the MMA would never succeed.—PPI
