Chaos and confusion at U-15 trials

By Mohammad Yaqoob

LAHORE, Oct 16: The first day of the trials to select  probables for an Under-15 cricket camp was marred by poor management at LCCA ground Wednesday.

Around 25 probable will be picked for the training camp  to finalise Pakistan squad for the Asia Cup World Cup, scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi from Dec 7 to 22.

In all, 116 probable were selected for the final round  of trials after holding two rounds, the first at the  district and then at provincial level.

But surprisingly, as many as 140 youngsters were tested by the selectors on the first day, 24 more than the originally picked.

National junior selection committee, headed by former Test captain Zaheer Abbas, is conducting the final trials.

A selector, on the condition of anonymity, said that the PCB officials who were assigned to send the probables to the  ground for trials had also been sending boys whose names were  not included in the list.

The selection committee had reduced the number of probable to 66 after Wednesday’s trials but their names were withheld from the media.

The trials will also be held on Thursday.
