MULTAN, Oct 16: Film and stage actress Laila is facing a threat of possible ban on her performance in the district owing to her alleged derogatory remarks against the MMAP leadership.
Talking to a delegation of Sipah-i-Mustafa Pakistan, DCO Maj Azam Suleman (retired) assured the actress would be asked to clarify her statement published in a local Urdu daily and that if found guilty she would be banned.
The DCO directed the EDO (community development) to summon Laila and proceed further in the light of her statement. The SMP delegation was informed that the ratio of case registration against the stage performers for breaching the code of conduct was much higher in Multan.
He apprised the delegation that eight actors had been banned in Multan while the local administration did not refrain to arrest even female performers.
A local Urdu daily had conducted the survey a couple of days ago that whether the MMAP should be allowed to rule the country. When the daily’s team sought Laila’s opinion, she reportedly opposed in strong words the “government of mullahs”. The SMP delegation claimed that her reported statement had infused a wave of anger in the ranks of religious people.
Laila is in town these days to perform at a private theatre house.
