KARACHI: Lashkar owns up to blasts

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 16: Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, a banned religious outfit, has claimed responsibility for the parcel blasts in Karachi.

In an e-mail sent to newspaper offices on Wednesday in Roman Urdu, the sender of the e-mail, who claimed to be Asif Ramzi, said the bomb blasts in the offices of government officers were a “warning” from the organisation.

“The officers carrying out an operation against the Mujahideen at the behest of America and subjecting them to torture are warned to abandon the operation,” said the message in the e-mail titled “We claim responsibility for the bomb blasts at government offices.”

The message further stated: “We already warned the police officers, but they have accelerated the operation against the jehadi organisations”.

“Now all major jehadi organisations, including the Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, are gathering on a platform — the Muslim United Army,” the message said.

“In the near future, guerrilla activities will be launched against the anti-Islam police officers and other non-Muslims. These explosions are an outcome of wrong policies of the present rulers.”

“The government should take a caution that who could commit this minor activity are able to perpetrate a major activity, but we are not anti-Pakistan, nor are we against every policeman.

“We are as loyal to our country as any other patriot, but Islam comes first. We only tried to target those police officials who are working against the Mujahideen.

“We also warn all political and religious parties to be cautious while talking on Taliban and Mujahideen.”

In the bottom, a note was also written which reads: “To prove that it was the activity of Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, we want to inform news agencies and newspapers that the explosive was kept in diaries and was placed in brown envelops and posted to the officials through different post offices. These diaries were wrapped in gift papers and each of them contained 150 grams of explosive”.

Those parcels were dispatched through Saddar GPO, Patel Para GPO, and Azizabad GPO to the IG Sindh, Syed Kamal Shah, DIG Operations Tariq Jamil, SP CID Zulfiqar Junejo, DSP CID Hafeez Junejo, DSP Fayyaz, DSP ATW Khurram Waris, DSP Nazimabad Chaudhry Aslam, DSP CIA Saddar Mazhar Mashwani and other renowned personalities, it added.
