UK to watch transfer of power

By Our Correspondent

LONDON, Oct 15: The UK government has said that Britain would remain engaged with Pakistan throughout its period of transition to democracy and transfer of power to the new National Assembly.

Foreign Secretary Jack Straw in a statement said that he welcomed the holding of elections in Pakistan. “These elections are an important milestone in Pakistan’s ongoing transition to democracy.

The next crucial step is the transfer of power to the new National Assembly and establishing parliament’s role”.
