Plea for recount rejected

SARGODHA, Oct 15: Returning officer for NA-66 dismissed the application of MMA’s Dr Arshad Shahid for recounting of votes.

Dr Arshad reportedly alleged that a majority of his valid votes were declared invalid. Moreover, his application for postal ballots was also turned down.

While dismissing the application, the RO observed that it was the duty of polling agents to raise any objection in this regard and as they (poling agents) have not raised any objection at the time of counting by the presiding officer, the application was not maintainable.

Meanwhile, the RO rejected a similar applications filed by Chaudhry Sarfraz Gondal, a candidate for PP-34.

It may be recalled that from NA-66, PP-33 and -34, the PPP candidates, Tasnim Ahmad Qureshi, Shoaib Awan and Dr Nadia Pervez, were elected, respectively.
