QUETTA, Oct 15: The President Balochistan High Court Bar Association, Amanullah Kanrani, has demanded that the Ordinance concerning increase in the superior court judges’ retirement age be withdrawn.
Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, flanked by other office-bearers, he rejected the Ordinance and described it as a “political bribe” for the judges.
He said that through such incentives, the government wanted to use the judges in getting decisions of its own choice.
He said that all lawyers’ bodies, including bar associations, high court bar councils and Supreme Court Bar Council had already rejected the ordinance.
He exhorted the government to desist from involving the judiciary in corruption.
The BHCBA chief urged political parties who have won the national assembly seats not to approve such an ordinance, which would bring a bad name for the judges. “An individual has no right to amend the Constitution.”
Referring to the issue of reserved seats in the national and provincial assembly, Mr Kandrani, who is also the Central Information Secretary of Jamhoori Watan Party, said the government should open these seats and let assemblies elect candidates according to the old system.
