New party launched to unite Pakhtoons

By Our Correspondent

CHARSADDA, Oct 14: A new political party has been launched in the NWFP to bring all the Pakhtoon nationalist forces on a single platform.

An announcement in this regard was made at a press conference addressed by nationalist leaders Zafar Azam and Nisar Mazloom.

They said that the major problem facing the Pakhtoons was disunity among their ranks and the new party — Pakhtoon Qaumi Wahadat — had been launched to unite the Pakh-toons.

Rejecting the parliamentary form of politics, which, they said, had split the Pakhtoons on different lines, the two leaders said that the problems facing the community could never be solved through this way, adding that unity was the foremost prerequisite to achieve success.

They also voiced their opposition to making Durand Line as the international border, saying the Pakhtoons in Afghanistan, Frontier and Balochistan were a single nation.

They claimed the Durand Line was actually a line of control between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

They said the atrocities being committed on Pakhtoons in Afghanistan by the Northern Alliance could never be forgiven. The new party would try to rally the Pakhtoons around a single platform.

Afzal Khan Lala, a prominent nationalist leader, would be the symbolic head of the Pakhtoon Qaumi Wahdat, they said.

Both the nationalist leaders explained that as a first step they would tour the whole province and address press conferences to create awareness among the people about this movement.

They also appealed to all the Pakhtoons to come forward and play their role in making party a success.
