KARACHI: Book bazaar at Frere Hall to be revived

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 14: The city government has decided to revive the weekly Sunday book bazaar on Frere Hall lawns from next Sunday, Oct 20.

The weekly bazaar of second-hand books at Frere Hall had been immensely popular among booklovers before it was suspended after a bomb blast in its vicinity on June 14.

The decision to revive the book bazaar was taken on Monday at a city government meeting which was presided over by the district coordination officer, Shafiqur Rahman Paracha.

City government officials told Dawn that previously at least 60 booksellers set up their stalls on the lawns of Frere Hall. “They organized the book bazaar on a self-help basis, that is, they divide among themselves the expenditure of furniture and electricity.”

They added that to sort out the modalities of the bazaar, booksellers would have a meeting with the city government’s director culture, S. R. Grami.
