LAHORE, Oct 13: The two to one chance King Fisher landed a fine victory to clinch the feature event during the Lahore Winter Meeting at Racecourse Sunday.
Progeny of Dexter out-of-Young Dancer, dark bay colt King Fisher blitz down the home stretch and had an amazing one length to spare over the front-runner and fancied colt Jet Master at the finishing post. At one stage Jet Master (Shahid Rehman up) was leading by four lengths and looked a probable winner.
Bay mare Perfect Timing failed to make any impression and finished third, about five lengths further behind with Blu’s Wendy completing the board, another five lengths away. The winner owned by Sohrab Khan and trained by Amjad Ali II clocked one minute 27 4/5 seconds over 1400 metres under jockey Aamar Parvez. This was sixth and last race of the day.
Long shot bay filly Bold Venture put up a grand performance to register a narrow win in the Rawalpindi Plate, a term race for two-year-old halfbred colts and fillies run over 1000 metres.
The 50 to 100 fancied colt Canwara set a fast pace and led the field till 800 metres. In the final furlong he was challenged by the filly Bold Venture and both were locked in a grim struggle for supremacy. The latter defeated the former by a narrow margin of a head in a thrilling finish. Tripple M and Black Nigeria finished third and fourth. Only four ran for the event.
Roan mare Dilnasheen II ran splendidly to bag the fifth race. After setting a cracking pace the mare never let her rivals to settle down and draw near finally defeating the lone chaser Lucky Shot by One-and-a-half lengths. Asif Love and Fan Tan Tiger made up the frame.
The best performer of the day was the three-year-old bay colt Incognito who toyed with his 13 rivals to win the third race by a big margin of eight lengths handily. Dhandhana, Puma Star and My Own Business finished second, third and fourth, respectively. The winner was ridden by jockey Shahid Rehman.
A race earlier odds-on favourite bay colt Raj Ruks gave a fine display of front-running winning the event comfortably. Trained by Raja Tehmasab Khan, this was colt’s second successive win within two weeks.
