KARACHI: PPP to challenge election results

KARACHI, Oct 13: The Pakistan People’s Party has decided to approach court to challenge the results of about 30 National and provincial assemblies’ constituencies for alleged rigging and irregularities in the general elections.

According to a press release issued by the PPP media cell here on Sunday, the party also levelled allegations of partiality against the Chief Election Commissioner for allegedly extending support to parties enjoying the government’s support.

The party also dispatched a complete report on the alleged irregularities and rigging in the elections to its chairperson, Benazir Bhutto.

A candidate for Sindh assembly from PS-37, Larkana-III, Ameer Bakhsh Bhutto, has urged the CEC to keep on hold the election results of the constituency.

He alleged that an opposition party had used fake national identity cards. He urged the CEC to hold detailed inquiry before announcing the official results.

Syed Zia Abbas, a candidate of the National Alliance from NA-239 in Karachi, has alleged massive rigging in the elections.

Talking to newsmen here on Sunday, he said he had sent a telegram to the CEC on Oct 10, citing alleged serious irregularities in the elections and requested to stop polling in the constituency, but no action was taken.

He alleged that the delay of more than eight hours in the announcement of results pointed to manipulation of results, in NA-239, in favour of the MMA candidate. He demanded fresh polls in NA-239.

Rajuni Ittehad, a tribe-based alliance, on Saturday thanked the people of Jam Goth, Malir, for supporting it in the election.

In a statment, the Ittehad said the people of the area had encouraged it and broken the 32-year-old political monopoly.—PPI/APP
