KARACHI: Evacuee property work wound up

KARACHI, Oct 13: The Board of Revenue Sindh (BoR) has, with the approval of the governor of Sindh, wound up the residuary work of evacuee property since January 2002.

The residual work, comprising documentation, both for urban and rural properties, recovery of outstanding dues or transfer price, rent of mortgage money of each property already disposed of and discharge of miscellaneous liabilities out of these recoveries, pending immediately before the repeal of the related acts and regulations, was transferred to the BoR Sindh for disposal under the Repeal Act of 1975.

It may be mentioned that the Settlement and Rehabilitation Organization, formerly under the administrative control of the federal government, was decentralized with effect from January 1, 1972, and the residual work was entrusted to the provincial government.

The relevant settlement and rehabilitation laws, enacted by the federal government, were repealed with effect from 1-7-1974, and later on replaced by the Evacuee Property and Displaced Persons Laws (Repeal) Act 1975.

The subject of disposal of undisposed of properties was being dealt with by the land utilization department of the BoR.

In pursuance of the decision of the federal cabinet, the government of Sindh notified the winding up of the Settlement and Rehabilitation Organization in June 1985, and the residuary work of the defunct organization stood transferred to the BoR for disposal at the provincial level.

In order to deal with this work, an Evacuee Property Branch was created in the BoR at the provincial level (headquartered at Karachi).—APP
