ZURICH (Switzerland), Oct 12: Swiss former world no. 1 Martina Hingis said Friday she would play no more tournaments this year after withdrawing from her hometown event, the Swisscom Challenge.

“At the moment I am not capable of reaching the level that I expect of myself, and I apologize to the public and my sponsors,” Hingis told reporters.

She said she thought she returned to playing too soon after an operation on her ankle this spring and since then had been “in a downward spiral.”—AP/APP
