Candidate’s supporters burn phone exchange

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, Oct 11: An unruly mob burnt the digital exchange of Kohlu township suspending communication link of the area, on Friday.

The incident occurred when the supporters of Mir Mohabbat Khan Marri, a former provincial minister, protested against the alleged rigging in the election in Kohan area of the tribal agency. After the incident the law-enforcement agencies arrested Mir Mohabbat Khan Marri with his 200 supporters, sources said.

Mir Mohabbat Khan was contesting provincial assembly election on the ticket of PML-QA against Mir Balach Khan Marri, the younger son of Nawab Khair Bukhsh Marri, who was an independent candidate.

A spokesman of Mr Marrai, Shaukat Marri, alleged that the opponent resorted to rigging, which created unrest among the people and they protested. He said during protest some of the people attacked the digital exchange building and set it ablaze. He confirmed the arrest of former minister and his supporters. He said unknown people kidnapped ADO Kohan.

The result of the constituency has not yet been declared by the election commission.
