LAHORE, Oct 11: Almost all the impounded public transport vehicles were returned by the government agencies promising to pay the fare on Monday.

Many drivers told Dawn on Friday that they had submitted vouchers as directed by the government. “They did not pay us the fare today and we fear that it would prove to be harder than the election duty,” they said.

They said though the government had promised to pay the fare according to the market rate, it was yet to be seen whether it honoured its promise or followed the past practice.

“Many of us are those whose wagons were impounded two to three days ahead of the polling day but we are not sure of the full payment,” they added.

Police and other government agencies had started impounding transport vehicles on Monday last. The remaining vehicles were hired by the contesting candidates.

The drivers, however, did not complain about the payment by the candidates.
