Over 100 Foreign mediamen to cover polls

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Oct 9: Over 100 foreign journalists, representing major international news networks, will be covering Pakistan’s general elections on Thursday that come after almost half a decade.

Officials at the ministry of information told Dawn on Tuesday that some 107 members of the foreign media had, so far, touched base with the ministry’s external publicity wing regarding the election coverage.

“We have issued special passes to 107 foreign journalists today (Tuesday), both visiting and Islamabad-based, to facilitate their access to polling stations,” said officials at the external publicity wing.

They told Dawn that they expected another 30 to 40 journalists to arrive in Pakistan by Thursday.

Notably, till Tuesday, not even a single Indian journalist had approached the officials concerned for the issuance of special passes to cover Thursday’s general election.
