KARACHI: Public-private partnerships lauded

KARACHI, Oct 9: Sindh Governor Mohammadmian Soomro has said that public and private partnerships in the health sector in Sindh have helped considerably in mitigating the miseries and hardships of needy patients.

He said this while speaking at a media event and award ceremony of the Private Public Partnership (Civil Hospital) Tuesday at the Governor’s House.

Referring to the enormous contribution of philanthropists in the public sector hospitals of Karachi, he said that it clearly means that people in the country do care for the underprivileged segment of the population by contributing significantly from their financial resources.

“(The) government has tremendous resource constraints, and by carrying this noble share, philanthropists have helped considerably (in) augmenting efforts towards (the) eradication of major diseases in the country” he added.

Applauding the efforts of the Civil Hospital in solacing the health plight of the large number of patients who visit the hospital, he said major credit for its outstanding performance may be attributed to philanthropists who contributed Rs 162 million over the period of time on different projects at Civil Hospital, out of the total amount of Rs220 million, while the remaining Rs58 million was shared by the government.

Sindh Health Minister Ahsan Ahmad said that the flow of resources from philanthropists has considerably helped for the better provision of treatment facilities for a large number of patients at the CHK.

He emphasized the need for the Sindh government to take steps to grant concessions to donors in the head of taxes and others, so they may be prompted to pursue this approach with more vigour. Sindh Secretary Health Khalid Latif Chaudhary and Medical Superintendent, CHK, Dr Naushad Sheikh also spoke on the occasion.

TRANSPARENCY: Governor Soomro has said that foolproof arrangements for holding transparent elections in the province have been finalized, and if the need arises, we would not hesitate in calling up services of the Pakistan Army to handle the law and order situation.

“We have maintained close liaison with (the) election commission to counter any eventuality”, he stated, while talking to newsmen at a media event at Governor’s House.

He urged the masses to come out of their homes in large number and cast their votes overwhelmingly in favor of patriotic elements.—PPI
