Kardar Trophy from Saturday
LAHORE, Oct 8: Twelve departmental teams will take part in the Kardar Trophy, a non-first-class cricket tournament, which commences from Saturday (Oct 12).
Kardar Trophy was formerly known as Patron’s Trophy. However, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to rename the tournament as a mark of respect to the services rendered by late A.H. Kardar, Pakistan’s first Test captain and former chairman of the cricket board which was then known as Board of Control for Cricket in Pakistan (BCCP).
This tournament was to earlier scheduled to begin from Friday (Oct 11) but the domestic Cricket Management Committee (CMC) decided to start the event 24 a day later to enable players involved in the current National Junior (Under-19) one-day championship participate.
Teams have been divided in two pools of six each. The winners of both pools will qualify for the four-day final at Gaddafi Stadium, scheduled for Nov 1-4. Winners of the championship will be promoted to next season’s Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Grade-I Championship.
All league round matches will be of three-day duration.
POOL ‘A’ includes Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation (PTCL), Saga, University Grants Commission (UGC), Pakistan Television (PTV), Army, Attock Refinery Limited (ARL).
POOL ‘B’ comprises of Sui Gas, Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC), Navy, Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Pakistan Education Board (PEB) and Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

Oct 12-14: PTCL v Saga at Saga Ground, Sialkot; UGC v PTV at ARL Ground, Rawalpindi; Army v ARL at Pindi Club Ground, Rawalpindi; Sui Gas v KESC at UBL Sports Complex, Karachi; Navy v KPT at KCCA Stadium, Karachi; PEB v PAF at PCB Regional Academy Ground, Karachi.
Oct 16-18: ARL v PTCL at ARL Ground, Rawalpindi; Army v UGC at Pindi Club Ground, Rawalpindi; Saga v PTV at Saga Ground, Sialkot. PEB v Sui Gas at National Stadium, Karachi; PAF v Navy at PCB Regional Academy Ground, Karachi; KESC v KPT at UBL Sports Complex, Karachi.
