KARACHI, Oct 8: Darryl Moniz was crowned the new KGA snooker champion, when he demolished Julius Pinto 3-1, in the final played at the KGA Hall.
In the first frame with both players on the attack from the word go, Darryl came out on top pinching the frame 54/38.
Continuing where he had left off in the first frame, Darryl raced to victory 78/19, in the next frame to lead 2-0.
After the break, Julius changed his strategy, reverting to defence and the ploy worked. Scoring on every visit to the table Julius was ahead 25/0, before Darryl could open his account. With only the coloured balls on the table, Darryl needed two snookers and the coloured balls to wrap up the match.
However, this was not to be. Sinking yellow and green with the blue, Julius cut down the deficit 1-2, winning the third frame 77/39. Trailing 2-1, Julius once again took the lead in the important fourth frame and looked to level the scores 2-2, in front 53/45, with the blue, pink and black to pot.
After a see-saw battle Darryl finally succeeded with a rasping shot wrapped up the match following up on a difficult pink and extremely superb shot which saw a difficult black sink into the left-hand top pocket which earned him the frame 63/53 and the trophy.
Valentine Fernandes, presented the trophies and cash prizes the winners and runners-up. Julius also received a cash award for registering the highest break of the tournament.
