PESHAWAR, Oct 8: The Commissionerate for Afghan Refugees has suspended the officials of a refugee camp in the Kurram Agency on the charge of embezzlement, an official confirmed on Tuesday.

The Commissioner, Brig Mushtaq Alizai, told Dawn that the staff of the Basu refugee camp had been suspended and an inquiry had been ordered into the alleged misappropriation of the relief goods.

“The responsible persons will have to face the disciplinary action and no one will be spared,” the commissioner said and added that a foreign relief agency had also been requested to conduct an inquiry against its staff deputed at the said camp.

Official sources said that a relief organization had donated some 5,000 blankets and other items for the 12,000 refugee families living in the Basu camp. They alleged that the commissionerate officials, in connivance with the foreign relief agency staff, had embezzled the relief goods.

The suspended officials included the administrator of the refugee camp, the storekeeper and security staff.
