PESHAWAR, Oct 8: The CID picked up three locals and two Afghans from the Shamshato refugee camp here on Tuesday, on the charge of providing shelter to some Al-Qaeda suspects, police officials said.
Sources told Dawn that the Crime Investigation Department (CID) during a three-hour search operation had arrested three tribesmen hailing from Dara Adam Kheil and two Afghans.
They said the FBI agents were also covering the search operation in the Shamshato refugee camp, comprising some 15,000 Afghan families.
During the Afghan war against the former Soviet Union, the camp was the base camp of various Jehadi groups, mainly of Hizb-i-Islami’s Gulbadin Hikmatyar.
The arrested persons included Mohammad Zamir and his father Gul Zamir, son of Hazrat Mir and Amir Mohammad, son of Bahadar Khan. They all belong to Dara Adam Kheil. The two Afghans were Khan Mohammad, son of Shehbaz Khan, resident of Baghlan and Afsar Khan, son of Mosafar Khan, resident of Jalalabad.
The sources said that all the accused had been handed over to the Federal Investigation Bureau (FBI) team for investigation.
