HYDERABAD, Oct 6: A spokesman of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA), Prof Tariq Mansoor Qureshi, has announced that all the university and college teachers of Sindh would observe total strike on Monday to protest police violence against the teachers and students of various educational institutions in Karachi.
In a statement issued on Saturday on behalf of the SPLA, Prof Tariq demanded that the recommendations of the task force for higher education should be withdrawn, six per cent of the GNP should be allocated for the educational sector, the contract system in educational institutions should be abolished, and the police officials responsible for attacking teachers and students in Karachi should be punished.
TRAINING: The director, non-formal education, Sindh, Mirza Ejaz Baig, has said the government has planned to train 5,000 middle school teachers of the district.
He was presiding over a meeting of officers and teachers at the Noor Mohammad High School here on Saturday.
He said the programme was aimed at enhancing professional skills of the teachers and improving the standard of education at the gross-root level.
Baig said the government had launched many programmes to provide incentives and encouragement to students and the teaching community. He said efforts were being made to equip teachers with the latest techniques of education.
