Sweet Touch should make amends today

By Ian Fyfe

KARACHI, Oct 5: The well-bred chestnut filly Sweet Touch from My Noble Lord out of Willing Shoes, although suffering two straight humiliating defeats this season, will be going all out to pick up the spoils in main event of the Summer Gymkhana Race Meeting, Sunday afternoon at the Karachi Racecourse.

Now owend by S. Ehtisham H. Rizvi, Sweet Touch will be contesting over six furlongs with eight other highly bred horses. But the chestnut filly, beaten twice in a row under jockey Raees Ahmed, has the class and weight advantage to beat her rivals especially with stable companion Steal The Show, burdened to carry 11 stones on his back.

The main challenge should come from Sweet Touch’s half brother Al Ashia, with two straight wins under his belt over the same distance, with the lion hearted Lover’s Lady, Edging Ahead and Navahoo Princess battling it out in the home stretch for the third berth.

All in all, eight events have been chalked up on the racing programme. The first seven will be run over five furlongs, whilst the concluding race will to over six.

The first race begins at 12-30 p.m.

Another runner that should win on Sunday afternoon is the bay colt Charismatic Eyes, vying for the top honours in a field of 12 runners in the fourth race. If all goes well, the dark bay Sone Pari should grab the second spot from the in form 10-year-old bay horse Prism Of Life.

The thoroughbred chestnut colt Sarazen, a close winner last Sunday with jockey Saif Mohammad in the saddle, will improve further and should pass the winning post ahead of Sapno Ki Rani and Welcome Shahtab in the seventh event which has eight runners in the field.

The opening event should be picked up by the dark bay mare Black Gift, with Millennium Era, My Baboo and Kashmir King, completing the frame.

If ticking, the bay Lawrence Of Arabia, should come out on tops in the next race with 18 runners in the field. Hogen and Do It, will also be likely candidates for the spoils, unless Last Love decides to upset the odds.

The roan colt High Speed and the dark bay filly Black Magic should be engaged in a keen tussle over the five furlong sprint in the third race with top weight Zabyan joining the fray.

The fifth race of the afternoon should be won by bay filly Cute Lady, closely followed home by Winning Streak and the Shane Warne sibling Jack Pot.

The next event should provide the racing fans with plenty of thrills. With 17 runners lining up at the starting gate all staking out a chance to win, our column fancies the top weight thoroughbred chestnut colt Brave Shah to win, although he will be carrying the top weight of nine stones three pounds on his back.

Also making their presence felt in this race will be the grey gelding Ever Shine, Neelam Taab and Guarantee.
