Govt backs anti-PPP candidates: Fahim

DADU, Oct 5: The chief of the People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP), Makhdoom Amin Faheem on Friday accused the government of using its powers against the PPP candidates.

He was speaking at a large election meeting held at the Municipal Park in Dadu.

Accusing the government of having formed a “King’s party,” he said that the government was trying to get corrupt and people of ill repute elected to the parliament.

He added that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and other agencies were investigating against many of such candidates.

While referring to the SDA chief Imtiaz Shaikh, he said that he was supporting the government on anti-Sindh projects, including the construction of Kalabagh dam, Greater Thal Canal.

He also said that the former Sindh chief minister, Liaquat Ali Jatoi, was reportedly involved in 22 cases of corruption, which were being processed by the NAB but he was contesting the polls with the help of some agencies.

Terming corruption cases against the PPP chairperson, Benazir Bhutto, her husband, Asif Ali Zardari and other PPP leaders fake, he said this was all done to keep them away from the polls.

He said that Benazir Bhutto would return to the country after the elections.

The PPP leader blamed the government for the water crisis, saying that that the wrong policies of the present government had led to a collapse of the country’s economy, agricultural system and businesses.

He said that thousands of workers, appointed by the PPP governments, had been sacked from various government departments in all the four provinces.

He said that suicides because of prolonged unemployment was on the rise everywhere in the country.

He was accompanied by the former Sindh chief minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, the provincial president of the PPP, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro and other senior party leaders.

INJURED: Two PML-Q and two PPP workers were injured in an armed clash between the workers of the two parties in Bundo village of Mehar taluka on Friday.

The core dispute was hoisting of party flag.

The incident occurred when the PML-Q workers and a close friend of Liaquat Ali Jatoi, Khadim Hussain Dahote, were hoisting their party flag at the main intersection in the village.

The PPP worker, Asghar Dahote, accompanied by five others exchanged heated words, which was followed by the clash.

Khadim Hussain Dahote and Ashiq Hussain of the PML-Q were injured in the ensuing firing while Asghar and Pir Dahote of the PPP were injured by axes and clubs.

The condition of Khadim Hussain and Ashiq was stated to be serious. Mehar police has, on the complaint of Khadim alias Khadoo, registered an FIR against six PPP workers.
