PESHAWAR, Oct 5: The city police have finalized security measures to ensure safety of the electorates, candidates and foreign observers during the Oct 10 general election.

The NWFP inspector-general of police, Muhammad Saeed Khan, said at a meeting of the capital city police here on Saturday that the police bore a great responsibility to ensure that the elections were held peacefully.

Mr Khan asked the police to strictly check arms’ display and aerial firing and arrest violators on the spot. He also directed the police to stop winners from resorting to aerial firing to celebrate their victory.

The police were also asked to provide full protection to the foreign election observers and their facilities.

Capital City Police chief DIG Khurshid Alam Khan briefed the IGP on the security measures taken to ensure smooth and peaceful elections in Peshawar.

The provincial police chief said that no interference and hurdle would be tolerated in the election process, and urged the police force to deal with miscreants with an iron hand.
