QUETTA, Oct 4: Afghan security officials have abducted Maulvi Abdul Hadi, a former police chief of Kandahar during Taliban government, from the border town of Chaman, and taken to Afghanistan.

Abdul Bari, younger brother of the former Kandahar’s police chief, lodged a report with the Chaman police station about Hadi’s kidnapping, a police official confirmed by telephone.

“My brother, Maulvi Abdul Hadi, was on his way home late on Thursday night when some armed men intercepted his car and whisked him away at gunpoint,” Abdul Bari told Chaman police in a written report. Hunt is on for Hadi’s recovery.

“My brother was kidnapped and taken to Afghanistan, by men in army uniforms, in a vehicle of Spin Buldak security department,” Abdul Bari said.

However, Pakistani border security force colonel said that they had no information about the incident.

A senior leader of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI), Maulana Noor Mohammad disclosed at a news conference that the Afghan army was arresting people, allegedly having links to Taliban, from Chaman without the knowledge of Pakistani authorities.

He alleged that eight persons were taken to Afghsnistan by the the Afghan army last week.
